Letting Your Lil Light Shine | day 12: sing

I saw an e-card recently that said,
When someone says 'Stop,' I don't know if it's in the name of love, if I should collaborate and listen or if it's hammer time.
Funny how three different lyrics could come to mind after hearing just one word. That's one small example of the power of music. Whatever we choose to listen to and sing along with has the ability to stay with us, like it or not.

It also, when used proactively, has a way of changing our mood, helping us remember things, and keeping us focused. Like this thought from In Heavenly Places...
When the evil one begins to settle his gloom about you, sing praise to God. ... Strike up a song about the matchless charms of the Son of God, and I tell you, when you touch this strain, Satan will leave you. You can drive out the enemy with his gloom; ...and you can see, oh, so much clearer, the love and compassion of your heavenly Father.
I asked Katelyn how she lets her lil light shine, and especially how she stays positive (because that's one way I've seen her let her light shine).

Here is Katelyn's response...

>> If I am truly honest with myself, I have a hard time not being judgmental, so I pray daily that God gives me His eyes and to help me love others the way He loves them. That really helps me keep my perspective to live positively!

In my attempt to live positively, I also really try to filter that stuff I let into my life because I know it can be really influential on so many levels, even subconsciously. It may be kind of weird, but I will randomly hear the children's song "Be careful little eyes what you see..." in my head and it reminds me to be careful how much of "the world" I let in. Upsetting that balance in my life really impacts my relationship with God, and He is my lifeline. It reminds me that nothing in this world is worth losing touch with Him.

One of my fave. ways to worship is listening to Christian music. By doing this throughout the day it helps keep me centered on Christ and remembering to stay in contact with Him throughout the day. I am also involved in praise worship time at church and help out with singing and playing guitar. My favorite part about it is when we find songs that really resonate with the church family and you really hear them singing along from up front. If I close my eyes and just listen, it gives me a glimpse of what Heaven will be like when we all gather to sing praises to our King. <<
